Cambodia: Leader Severs Ties With Gay Daughter

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: October 31, 2007
Prime Minister Hun Sen said he planned to legally disown his adopted daughter, who is a lesbian, so she cannot claim any inheritance. Mr. Hun Sen made the disclosure about his closely guarded family life in a speech at a graduation.

“My adopted daughter now has a wife,” he said. “I’m quite disappointed.”

At the same time, he appealed to people not to discriminate against homosexuals, adding, “Most of them are good people and are not doing alcohol, drugs or racing vehicles.”
-end of AP quote.
---Vanak's Comment:
Oh, Mr. Prime Minister what a double standard you are ! There's a saying "Do what I said not what I do". Sir, with all due respect, by disowning your lesbian daughter you are discriminating against homosexual already.

Hey vanak. when you mention "with all due respect" it means you're addressing to that person as an idiot. Let me rephrase your comment:

Sir, you're an idiot, by disowning your lesbian daughter you are discriminating against homosexual already.

I enjoy your writing.

Hi Vanak... I started to worry about you- you must post more often so that we don't wonder whether the secret police took you away to share a cell with Tim Sokorn.

Isn't the current King Gay?

Anyhow, my mother-in-law disowned one of her sons- in Cambodia, they publish it in the paper and everything, a very public statement- but it wasn't long before he was back home. Maybe this is the same thing? Hun Sen makes a very public statement for political or public image reasons, but they probably will get back together, don't you think?

At least he admits that the gay people are good citizens, . But one more question too, is it the same for everybody in Cambodia if they Marry somebody they're parents disapprove of? i think people should have freedom to love and marry who they want, doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, or whatever.

Anyhow, nice post... thanks!

CJ

12:58pm, I don't know if PM Hun Sen gay daughter is pretty or not. Newspaper over here never published her picture.

hahaha, thanks ! CJ for your concern. That's scary if the police handed me to the Viets. But would continue to write from the cell !!

I think King Sihamoni, 55, at his old age still not married. I wouldn't be surprised if one day he'll come out as gay. I have nothing against gay people.

I think Khmer sensible parents follow their children's hearts to whomever they fall in love. Two of the Khmer literatures I could think of is "Tum Teov" and "Pka Srawpoan" where the parents were adamantly prohibiting their children to be married with each others because of classes (one poor and one is rich). Tragically the children committed suicide -- similar to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

One day if I'm to be married and have children, I would follow my daughter or son's wishes. I would wholeheartedly give them my blessing to whomever their mate may be.

As they say...having a double-standard life is merely an excuse for being a hyprocrite...But I still hope that society will eventually change its view on human sexuality. Go on blogging dude!
